A Little Guide To A Lovely Garden

August 20, 2013 by derick

There is plenty to learn about gardening, but the knowledge will pay off in the long run. This article contain a collection of gardening ideas and some horticultural advice that will help you to embark on your journey towards becoming an excellent gardener.

Plant a variety of flowers to keep your flower garden colorful and interesting. Annuals and biennials can add excitement and interest to your flower garden every season. Annuals and biennials that grow quickly can really wake up your flower beds, and they allow you to have a new garden look every season or every year, if you choose to. In an area that is sunny, they make good plants to place in the gaps found between shrubs and perennials. Notable varieties include cosmos, rudbeckia, petunia, hollyhock, marigold and sunflower.

There are home solutions available to combat the powdery mildew you may find on your plants. Mix plain baking soda with a small bit of liquid soap and water. Once every week, you should spray the mixture on your plants; the mildew will disappear shortly thereafter. Baking soda is not harmful to your plants and will take care of the issue as well as any other treatment.

If you have a wall or fence that you do not like, plant climbers to mask its appearance. Plants that grow as climbers are quite versatile, helping you hide ugly walls or fences, many times within only one season of growth. Climbers can also be trained to grow and cover an arbor, and they will grow through or around existing trees and shrubs. Some must be tied onto a support, but a number of climbers attach to surfaces with twining stems or tendrils. A few good choices are climbing roses, wisteria, jasmine, honeysuckle and clematis.

Carbon dioxide, or CO2, is essential to the growth of plants because of its role in photosynthesis. The majority of plants thrive when they are exposed to a high level of carbon dioxide. The best way to get a lot of it is through a greenhouse. To achieve optimal growing conditions, keep the levels of carbon dioxide high in your plants’ environment.

This isn’t as horrible as you thought, is it? There is all kinds of information available to the avid gardener. Sometimes, if you figure out where to begin, it’s easy to “jump right in”. Hopefully, you have received that help from the tips shared in the above article.
