How to Determine if the Tree is Hazardous

April 9, 2015 by derick

Your home landscape won’t be complete without seeing a tree within it. No matter whether it is small or big, their presence just offers life to the surroundings. However, we may not be informed that trees do also have diseases that must definitely be stopped or remedied. You wouldn’t want to have a dying or rotten tree in your right?

While tree failures are usually unpredictable, measures can be carried out to counteract them. To correct potential problems before they develop, you need to examine your trees for the following signs.

Dead wood
When the tree is already dead, it is encouraged to just get rid of it. Strong winds or a storm may easily send these branches crashing down onto your family or your home. Tree trimming is necessary to eliminate these hazards.

Decay
A decaying tree is also prone to failure. Examine the branches and the truck for shedding barks and hollow or decaying areas. Existence of fungal activity which includes conks and mushrooms growing at the base of the tree, branches or stems also indicates sophisticated decay.

They are parts of roughened or cracked bark, specifically around wounds and branch stubs that is commonly due to fungus that penetrates the tree. If the tree has canker fungi, make an effort to remove it from the tree to avoid infection and spread as early as possible.

Hangers
They are damaged branches still hooked up in the tree. Whether partially or completely separated from the trunk, hangers may fall at any time. Hence, they have to be detached right away. Remember to remove the stubs left by the broken or dead branches to avoid the spread of decay.

Weak branch unions
Make sure you check where the branches meet the trunk of the tree, generally known as unions, to be especially sure there is no damage there. Examine how good the branches appear to be linked to the tree, as weak unions do not have integrity and the branches can come falling down. Look at all of the branches and leaves, simply because the crown of the tree in perfect shape, does not necessarily mean the rest of the tree is.
Odd shape
Does your tree have a weird shape that seems poorly formed? These trees might require removal simply because they lack structural integrity if it’s confirmed to have an issue.

Multiple trunks
There are some trees which have multiple trunks. Trees which have big trunks with splits and cracks could possibly collapse. Inspect tree for any signs and symptoms of splits and cracks at the area in which the trunks meet.
