How To Get Your Kids In The Garden

July 28, 2013 by derick

Many consider gardening to be a relaxing and stress relieving hobby. When it comes to gardening there are some basic “need to know” things such as: knowing your soils, which equipment to use and the time frame for planting your seeds. Here you will find some helpful tips for the garden.

If you want to cover up your walls or fences, make sure that you specifically use climbing plants. You can hide an unsightly wall or fence, in as little as one growing season, with the right selection of climbing plant. They may grow up through some existing shrubs and trees, and can even be worked to grow around an arbor. Some of these plants must have support, and some can attach themselves to something using their stems and tendrils. Some climbers that have proven to be reliable are honeysuckle, jasmine, wisteria, clematis, and climbing roses.

Pre-soak seeds overnight in a dark place. Simply place a handful of seeds in a container, cover the seeds up with water, and stash it away. That way, the seeds will have sufficient hydration and will have the best start possible. This way, the seeds you have planted will have some chance of growing.

When you mow your lawn, do not mow it close to the ground. Keeping grass with a little more height makes it healthier. This allows the roots to grow more deeply and makes the blades of grass more resistant to becoming dry and discolored. If you have short grass, you will have short roots and you will dry out your grass.

Vegetables should be placed in a spot in your garden that will get about six hours of sun every day. Most members of the vegetable family need this minimum of light for proper growth. This is true of some flowers.

Try dousing weeds in your garden with boiling water to get rid of them. A pot full of boiling water is an effective herbicide, yet it is, chemically speaking, completely harmless. Literally pour the water on the weeds, avoiding any wanted plants near them, and watch the weeds die over time. The roots of the weeds are damaged by the boiling water which, in turn, inhibits further growth.

Making a delicious meal with fresh ingredients from your own garden can be extremely satisfying. Create aromatic flowers, delicious vegetables, sweet fruit and lush foliage with a relaxing, enjoyable hobby. Remember the tips in this article to have your own beautiful garden.
