These Great Gardening Ideas Will Grow On You!

August 14, 2013 by derick

If you use these principles of organic gardening, you will produce notably positive effects for your plants and your planet. When you care about plants, they can grow up and be healthy. It is quite admirable. As with any skill set, there is always room for you to grow and improve. The following tips are given to help you with this.

Start your seedlings in pots inside and then transplant them into your garden. This increases the chance that your plants will survive to adulthood. It also helps you make your planting times more frequent. Your seedlings will be ready to go in as soon as you remove the previous set of mature plants.

Choose perennials that are not vulnerable to attack by slugs. Snails and slugs can do irreparable damage to your garden in a single night. They tend to enjoy perennials that have thin, smooth, tender leaves, especially those of young plants. There are some perennials that do not appeal to slugs, such as those with leaves that are hairy and tough with a bad taste. Some of these plants include achillea, campanula, euphorbia, hellaborus, and heuchera.

For weeds that aren’t in the middle of your plants, use boiling water to kill their roots. This is a safe way to eliminate weeds, as this will not damage the soil. Pour boiling water over the weeds to kill them, but make sure not to pour the water over any plants you don’t want to kill. Boiling water kills weeds by destroying their roots. Weeds won’t be able to survive, never mind grow, with damaged weeds.

Split up your irises. Take clumps that have become overgrown and divvy them up into separate plants. If you find any dead irises in your garden, immediately pull up the bulbs. The bulbs will split up naturally in your hand, and when replanted, will often flower the next year. Split rhizomes with a knife. Get rid of the center and keep the new pieces you cut from the outside. Every piece is suppose to have at least one durable offshoot. Replant each one immediately.

Now you have the three items you need to make your organic garden a success– tools, products and skill. This is great news! The tips above will help you to improve your organic garden. It is likely that you have gained some valuable insights that you can apply to your organic garden.
